GTI Rise Opens 14th Dispensary Location in New Jersey

Green Thumb Industries Inc (GTI) Rise announced their Paramus store opening in New Jersey yesterday. It is the 14th dispensary location in New Jersey.

This is GTI Rise’s second location in New Jersey and the 54th store for the Multi-State Operator (MSO). Their main location is in Paterson.

Profits from the first day of sales will be donated to the Paramus Children’s Health Foundation, which helps families of children who suffer from a severe illness or injury resulting in economic hardship.

“We are honored to open Rise Paramus, which will benefit the thousands of registered medical cannabis patients in Bergen County with its geographical proximity and high-quality products for which Rise is known,” said Green Thumb Founder and CEO Ben Kovler. “We are also grateful to support the Paramus Children’s Health Foundation and its impactful work assisting the families of children suffering from serious illnesses.”

“The Paramus Children’s Health Foundation is delighted to acknowledge the generosity of Rise Paramus in donating the sales proceeds of its first day of operation to our organization,” said President of Paramus Children’s Health Foundation Marty Diamond. “We welcome Rise Paramus to the community and wish it great success.”

GTI Rise Paramus offers online reservations and in-store pickup for New Jersey medical cannabis patients. Patients may order online by creating an account and scheduling a pick-up time. They will receive a text message to confirm all reservations and will pick up during their designated time.

Green Thumb opened its first New Jersey medical cannabis dispensary in Paterson in December 2019. Paterson is also home to Green Thumb’s manufacturing facility that distributes its branded products.

More than 104,000 New Jersey patients are registered active cardholders in the state’s medical cannabis program.

Operating in Paramus

Rise Paramus is located at 145 Route 4 W in Paramus and will be open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

While Paramus approved a medical dispensary, their town council has expressed reservations over adult-use recently. Paramus is also the location of a large mall.

Bergen County operates on “blue laws,” which means the mall and now the GTI Rise dispensary and many other businesses are closed on Sundays. The laws are likely a carryover from alcohol Prohibition. Many say it keeps down traffic in Bergen County, which is very crowded and likely needs more public transportation.

New Jersey Cannabis Industry Grows Slowly

More satellite locations are expected to open within the next few months. Verano Zen Leaf is opening in Neptune in Monmouth County and Lawrence Twp. in Mercer County soon. Curaleaf will open in Bordentown Twp and Edgewater in Burlington County. “Be” by MPX/iAnthus should open in Atlantic City this year. Justice Grown in Ewing in Mercer County is wholesaling its cannabis to other stores and will open later this year. Harmony wants to open a location in Hoboken in Hudson County. The Apothocarium was the last to open in Phillipsburg in Warren County last fall and is expected to open in Maplewood in Essex County soon.  Ascend also has a planned location in Rochelle Park which is also in Bergen County.

That would give New Jersey, a state of nine million people, a whopping 23 dispensary locations. Considering there were only five for awhile under former prohibitionist Governor Chris Christie, this does represent progress.

There are currently twelve medical cannabis license holders who are permitted two satellites to their main location. That would mean there is the potential to open 36 locations eventually in New Jersey.

More medical licenses are likely due soon since the 2019 ATC license lawsuit was resolved. “Soon,” though, is a relative term. Next week and four months from now could arguably both be “soon.”
