ButACake announced the launch of the first canned cannabis drink THC beverage in licensed New Jersey dispensaries, “the Cherry Hibiscus Elixir.”
Each ButACake cannabis drink can has 7.5 fluid ounces with 5mg of THC.
Many longtime underground legacy consumers will likely find that weak. However, casual cannabis consumers and newbies with a low tolerance might like a low dose like beer.
It also shows why beer is often sold in six-packs or more.

It will be the first canned drink available in dispensaries, similar to the great range of infused hemp drinks found in liquor stores and smoke shops across Jersey that have been available for awhile.
The ButACake Cherry Hibiscus Elixir Cannabis Drink
“For ButACake, it’s always been about flavor and premium experience,” said ButACake/Cannpowerment CEO Matha Figaro.
“This drink is … something that feels elevated but easy and brings a new kind of energy to how people engage with cannabis,” MF added.
According to a release, it’s a fast-acting, ready-to-drink elixir designed for a controlled, predictable experience. They said the Cherry Hibiscus Elixir combines tart cherry, floral hibiscus, and a little citrus.
The ButACake Cherry Hibiscus Elixir is available at:
- Shipwreck’d Dispensary in Neptune City.
- Blue Oak Dispensary in Bloomfield
- Queen City in Plainfield
- URB’N Dispensary & Consumption Lounge in Newark
- Shore House Canna in Cape May
- Valley Wellness in Raritan Township
- Township green in Riverside
- Premo cannabis co in Keyport
- Daylite cannabis in Mount Laurel
- Bud2bloom in Netcong
They plan to be in more dispensaries soon.
Drink Highlights
The ButACake cannabis drink is supposed to get you high in 5 to 15 minutes.
Consumers can enjoy the elixir chilled, over ice, or mixed into sparkling water or mocktails.
Hibiscus is a funny, uncommon ingredient.
A Peach Elixir flavor will also be joining shelves in the coming weeks. Peach is always a good flavor for a drink.
Working with Azuca
Figaro has a longstanding partnership with Azuca as its inaugural Social Equity Fellow. So, ButACake has worked closely with Azuca to bring products to market.
According to a release, Azuca provided its “TiME INFUSION®” process and formulated it with its “RTD ACTiVATOR® product” to help make the drink.
“This is the first of its kind available in the state’s dispensaries, and it sets a new standard for how these products should perform,” said Kim Sanchez Rael, CEO and Co-Founder of Azuca.
She thought their drinks predictable, controlled, and in a format consumers were familiar with.
ButACake Pioneering Legal NJ Cannabis Edibles
ButACake debuted the first legal NJ cannabis infused cookies, brownies, and now drinks.
They started with a production deal with the large Multi-State Operator (MSO) Columbia Care/Cannabist, where ButACake brought their own recipe and team to the table. With their help, ButACake got into the Delaware medical cannabis market. Since then, ButACake has opened up its own licensed manufacturing facility in Monmouth County.
Columbia Care/Cannabist is now exploring bankruptcy to the delight of many Heady NJ heads on Instagram.
ButACake is the brand of the CannPowerment company, founded by Figaro, who began as a Pastry Chef, and her old friend Jimmy Barrett.
They say they are committed to delivering unique and high-quality experiences to cannabis enthusiasts and medical patients.
Figaro has been very active in NJ cannabis politics. For example, she is among the licensed operators who have joined the coalition in favor of legalizing home cannabis gardening in the Garden State. Figaro has also been vocal on hemp issues and testified before the NJ Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) recently.
Legal Infused NJ Drinks
Infused hemp THC seltzer drinks sold in liquor stores and convenience stores have become a multi-billion-dollar national industry without all the red tape of the cannabis industry.
Heady NJ has been sent a good half dozen or so THC seltzers to review over the last few years and found many of them very enjoyable.
Pro-cannabis dispensary industry operators have not been happy about the competition. However, that should be over when the infused/intoxicating hemp ban goes fully into effective in November 2026.
So far, the legal NJ cannabis dispensaries have only sold infused syrups by Journeyman and The Major. They have 100 mg of THC, which is the state-mandated limit.
Since they are syrups, they could be added to a sort of mixed drink with ice and a little water.
I got a similar underground legacy syrup that was blue and made drinks with a little lemon juice, water, and ice for a while.
You could also probably just drink them like tiny shot bottles.
Legal cannabis drinks might be an interesting thing to offer in New Jersey’s legal cannabis lounges to make them more like bars where people often order beer after beer often.
