Many fans are going to descend on North Jersey for the soccer/football FIFA World Cup. Some might like to know about consuming cannabis.

There are a lot of legal products in the New Jersey adult-use/recreational cannabis market that World Cup tourists might enjoy.

New York/New Jersey/Philadelphia Stadium Basics

Met Life Stadium has been temporarily renamed New York New Jersey Stadium for the World Cup, like all stadiums involved across the world.

It is west of New York City in East Rutherford in Bergen County in North Jersey in the Meadowlands.

A lot of bigwigs from elsewhere like to come to Jersey and take up space when they mean New York City, when things should be named New Jersey, like the Giants and the Jets. However, with so much money and people, New Jersey is wealthier than most sovereign nations.

Lincoln Field in Philadelphia has similarly been renamed Philadelphia Stadium.

FIFA World Cup Basics

The World Cup will run in cities around the world from June 11th to July 19th.

So, some games will happen in NN Stadium along with Philadelphia and other cities in the United States and across the world.

The final game will be in NN Stadium.

In addition to the games, the World Cup teams for Brazil, Haiti, Morocco & Senegal have set up training camps and will eat and live in New Jersey.

NJ Cannabis Basics for World Cup FIFA Fans

The NJ Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) recently announced that 323 dispensaries have opened. So, there are plenty of places to choose from.

You can find New Jersey cannabis dispensaries here in our FINDER TOOL!

Notably, an individual 21 and above can legally possess up to six ounces or about 170 grams of cannabis on them.

However, you cannot legally consume cannabis outside in public. But not many are getting arrested either, since it has been decriminalized.

So, if you try to smoke weed in public, it is a risk. But it’s a very manageable risk when no one else is around.

Your best bet is a vape pen or gummies if you’re nervous about getting caught.

The highly regulated New Jersey/American state cannabis model is absolutely unlike the decriminalization in Portugal and Spain. which has led to a plethora of smoke shops and clubs in certain cities like Barcelona.

In New Jersey, you must have an ID indicating you are 21 and older to enter a legal dispensary, which you have to show twice before buying legal weed.

Notably, you can enjoy smoking weed inside the Urb’n dispensary lounge in Newark, which is more legal than the fabled Amsterdam cafes.

Other legal cannabis consumption lounges were opened by Gynsyng in Merchantville nearly Philadelphia, along with High Rollers and Sunnytien in Atlantic City in South Jersey.

World Cup Cannabis Restrictions

Unfortunately, every World Cup stadium bans cannabis entirely. It remains illegal

under federal law. That could create entry and visa problems for non-citizens if they get caught, but are following state laws.

In addition, taking cannabis across state lines or to an airport is technically a federal offense.

It’s safer to travel without it on trains and buses. But they’re looking for bombs more than weed.

No one is checking cars at state lines. Plus, the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) doesn’t care as much when flying on an airplane, though it remains a risk.

So, if you choose to use it, do so legally and privately, ideally away from the Stadium and off the street.

“A lot of fans will assume that because cannabis is legal in New Jersey, they can take it to the game, but that’s a costly mistake,” Ecigone spokesperson Shane Margereson said.

NJ Cannabis World Cup Promotions

A lot of cannabis companies have begun running World Cup-related promotions. That includes Cannaboss Lady dispensary in Maplewood and the small MSO Multi-State Operator (MSO) Camino, which talk show host Conan O’Brien complimented on their cans on his podcast.

In addition, the Smoke Signal NJ posted that the cannabis cultivator Niche is running a World Cup-related deal too.

As part of the celebration, Jersey-Canna is offering multiple soccer-themed cannabis products. That includes infused chocolates for enjoying and functionals for winding down after the big match.

Some NJ cannabis dispensaries are going to provide World Cup souvenirs. They are also celebrating by broadcasting “Game of the Day”. They plan to dress up in team colors, run periodic discounts, and offer swag and merchandise awards.

Additionally, a winner will be selected from those who enter a weekly contest for a chance to win a $150 gift card for Jersey Canna infused chocolate products from the winning dispensary.

Infused chocolate isn’t very popular in the NJ cannabis market. Probably because it melts too easily.
