The New Trend of Delta-10-THC Derived from Hemp

Delta-10-THC is the newest addition to the growing list of medicinal and therapeutic cannabinoids being discovered in hemp.

Delta-9 THC is the active ingredient in cannabis that causes a high that the federal government made illegal. Delta-8 THC was then discovered and extracted from hemp which is supposed to have less than .03 percent Delta-9 THC. However, that number is so low it has caused many hemp crops to be destroyed for having such high content, which greatly hurt hemp farmers. Thus, the hemp industry was looking for something better to market and found Delta-8 THC and Delta-10-THC.

The 2018 Farm Bill legalized all products derived from hemp with less than 0.3 percent THC. Hence, Delta-10 products derived from hemp fall in a legal gray zone, for now.

The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) noted that products containing synthetically derived THC would remain controlled substances. However, the authorities have not defined what they mean by synthetically derived. As a result, most companies are unsure whether their products with this new variant are legal or not. States have taken to banning Delta-8-THC. Most are choosing to create Delta-10 from hemp.

What is Delta-10-THC?

Unlike its cousin Delta-9 THC, Delta-10-THC does not exist in large quantities within the plant. While Delta-9 produces a strong high, Delta 10 gives you a midler high.

Since commercial variants of cannabis contain only trace amounts of Delta-10, extracting it is a complicated and expensive affair. The elusive nature of the product also leads to manufacturers misidentifying it as the cannabinoids CBC or CBL.

How Does Delta-10-THC Work?

The high produced by Delta-10 is different from the high created by the other variants in the same family. It resembles a Sativa strain and fosters creativity, alertness, and energy. Thus, this new variant has an uplifting effect making it perfect for daytime use.

Delta-9 THC has the most significant impact on our bodies, producing intense highs. Delta-8 has lower potency and, therefore, induces mild relaxation and appetite stimulation like an Indica. Delta-8 resembles the Indica in terms of effect inducing relaxation and sleep. Individuals who want the benefits of cannabis without the intense effect Delta-9-THC will flock to this compound. As extraction methods become much more efficient, experts believe that this variant will become increasingly popular.

There has been little research regarding the nature of cannabis and hemp. Cannabinoids like Cannabidiol (CBD) and THC work by interacting with our Endocannabinoid System (ECS). All mammals possess the complex network of receptors and neurotransmitters that is the ECS. The ECS is responsible for several body functions including sleep patterns, metabolism, awareness, and hormone production. CBD binds with CB2 receptors that handle our immune response. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), on the other hand, has an affinity for CB1 receptors. They are responsible for memory, thinking, cognitive ability, emotional response, and hormone regulation. Delta-10-THC likely works in the same way.

Why is Delta-10 Trending?

Many people want to enjoy the medicinal and therapeutic effects of cannabis but are afraid of some of the effects. Delta-10 is the perfect answer for such people since it is milder.

When the industry came out with the Delta-8 variant, demand sky-rocketed quickly. More and more companies now have products containing the new commodity. Companies are trying to optimize their production to prepare for the soaring demand they expect. Delta-10-THC for now is just as popular and unnoticed by the government.
