The US Attorney for New Jersey is going after an alleged associate of the Gambino Family for seeking to extort a cannabis cultivation company in Vineland in South Jersey.

According to Yahoo News and the Courier Post, “the complaint was issued in June 2025. A federal judge on Sept. 16 scheduled a plea agreement hearing Oct. 21 in Camden federal court.”
However, the defendant’s lawyer had a conflict. So, court documents say “The NEW date and time are October 26, 2026 at 11:00 AM in Courtroom 4A – Camden.”
Alleged Gambino Associate Extorts Vineland Cannabis Company
Joseph Campisi Jr. of Broomall, PA, said the business owner owed a debt of $200,000. The US Attorney for New Jersey alleges he is an associate of the Gambino Crime Family Business, known in some circles as part of the Mafia.
It has not been specified which cannabis cultivation and manufacturing company in Vineland was in trouble.
“The court documents say “Company-1 procured a Class 2 Cannabis Manufacturer license from the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission.”
“Company-1 received approval for a Conditional License as a Cultivator in or around March 2022; approval for a Conditional Class 2 Cannabis Manufacturer License in or around September 2022; and approval as an Annual Class 1 Cannabis Cultivator in or around September 2023.”

According to court documents, “Victim-1 is the majority owner of Company-1. Two limited liability companies also have an ownership interest in Company-1.”
“Although an exact figure for the value of the License cannot be determined until sale, Victim-1 estimates that License is likely worth up to $150 million.”
Many Criminal Allegations
He threatened the unidentified owner of the unidentified company, so they hired a security guard who Campisi then also perhaps threatened.
He was also working with “Individual-1 is a known associate of and former enforcer for the Gambino Crime Family,” the court documents said.
“Since at least as early as in or around February 2025, CAMPISI and others have attempted to obtain money from Victim-1 through the wrongful use of fear.”
“Specifically, CAMPISI and various co-conspirators have represented to Victim-1 and Victim-1’s father that they intend to collect money from Victim-1, which Victim-1 understands to be a demand made in connection with her ownership interest in the License.”
“Victim-1 understands CAMPISI to be working with and on behalf of Individual-1 – and CAMPISI has, in fact, referenced Individual-1 on at least one occasion – in his efforts to extort Victim-1.”
“CAMPISI’s efforts have included frequently driving by Victim-1’s home, stopping by Victim-1’s office, calling Victim-1’s home and office phones, and asking others to deliver messages to Victim-1.”
“…On or about March 14, 2025, Victim-1 received a telephone call from CAMPISI, during which CAMPISI told Victim-1… that CAMPISI knew Victim-1 took his money and that CAMPISI wanted his 50% now.”
According to LinkedIn, Campisi is President of the JMD Development Group.
