It is the haunting follow-up to 2022’s “Black Phone” that features everything from an undead serial killer to a bloody showdown on ice skates.
Spoiler Warning
Ethan Hawke stars as The Grabber, a masked serial killer who abducts children in a creepy black van.
The Grabber has become one of the most notorious villains in recent horror. It even inspired costumed appearances at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights. He comes back in full force in the second installment of this chilling franchise.
Everyone knows how Finn or Finney Blake killed The Grabber after being imprisoned in his basement. But as he battles depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and anxiety, Finney learns that The Grabber’s story isn’t over.
His dead mom’s old summer camp is calling his sister through psychic dreams. And Finney feels The Grabber’s presence is waiting there for him.
Black Phone 2 and Weed
Although The Grabber was killed in the first movie, his evil presence continues to affect Finn and his struggling family.
Finney is clearly struggling with the effects of what happened. The film opens with him getting into a fight after being asked about The Grabber. He copes with his trauma by consuming weed for self-medication to keep calm and cope.
But it’s 1982. So, herbal therapy isn’t a very popular option. However, Finn finds relief in smoking and uses it to stop stress from overwhelming him. His decision to consume cannabis to cope is criticized by his sister. But viewers may sympathize with his struggle.
Facing your demons head-on is often key to overcoming trauma. So in “Black Phone 2,” Finney shows that a little bit of weed can help keep the nightmares at bay.

Online, people were quick to point out how the snowy landscape setting in the new movie offers a beautiful backdrop to smoke against.
“If I were being haunted by a freaky guy in a mask, I’d need a ton of weed to stay chill about it,” said one Redditor. “I don’t blame Finney for needing a smoke break every time things got stressful.”
“Smoking weed in a snowstorm has never looked so beautiful. (they can put that on Black Phone 2 Blu-ray if they want),” posted X user Priscilla Page.
As of late November 2025, the film grossed $122 million worldwide on a budget of $30 million. Check out “Black Phone” streaming on Peacock and prepare for some scares.
Cannabis Treatment for PTSD
It’s always best to consult a doctor and get a proper prescription for medical cannabis. “Black Phone 2” effectively shows how it helps keep the main character calm when you can’t find a doctor and legal medical cannabis.
Harvard University researchers recommend people to seek the advice of doctors if they are interested in partaking in medical cannabis.
“My advice for patients is to be entirely open and honest with your physicians. And to have high expectations of them,” said Dr. Peter Grinspoon. “Tell them that you consider this to be part of your care and that you expect them to be educated about it….”
Weed and Movies
Cannabis has been depicted periodically in film since the 60s. For decades, many consumers enjoyed stoner comedies making the most of the zany hijinks brought on by the plant. This is well depicted in the New Jersey-based film “Harold and Kumar go to White Castle.” In the film our heroes get high and drive from Hoboken in North Jersey to Princeton and Freehold in Central Jersey to get burgers. Comedy ensues.
However, with cannabis becoming more mainstream in the last 20 years, laughing at bumbling fools almost feels like an anti-marijuana narc lover trap.
This new movie shows cannabis consumption depicted in a more personal way. It helps depict an insight into who they are and how they view the world.
