Benedict’s Supply Grand Opening
The opening was met with fanfare from excited members of the community, where owner Sarah Russell answered questions about her dispensary. Ward D Councilman Yousef Salih attended the ribbon-cutting along with community members and interviewed her.
“It’s very ‘grandma friendly,’” Russel shared. “We’re welcoming, calm, quiet… we’re here to educate and we have something for everyone.”
“Cannabis is an industry founded on principles and social justice. Reversing the harms caused by the War on Drugs… I just wanted to [create] something that’s community oriented,” she added.

Benedict’s Supply offers several brands for a micro dispensary. Garden Greens, Full Tilt Labs, Hamilton Farms, and Veda Warrior Oil can all be found at the dispensary. They also had vape oil manufacturers Fernway and Pyramid.* Behind the clever and cool translucent windows is a stellar collection with something for everyone.
Russell noted they have a pre-roll called Holy Communion as a nod to a local historic church by the legacy to legal grower Piff Coast Farms.
“We love to see when legacy growers come to the market. It’s a really big treat from those of us who transitioned on the consumer side,” she explained.
Russell described it as an Earthy vibe.

“It might not feel like a dispensary, and that’s the point,” she said.
Russell explained that the logo is a dove with an olive branch, a symbol of peace and tranquility from the story of Noah’s Ark.
Their website has a place an order online or for pickup. It encourages folks to “Shop By Mood”, letting you choose between vibes like ‘Creative’, ‘Energized’, and ‘Relaxed’. Flowers, pre-rolls, edibles, vapes, concentrates, and even topicals are for sale at Benedict’s Supply.

Benedict’s Supply Background
Russell previously worked to convince her hometown of Englewood to allow dispensaries, but the ‘patriarchal’ city prevented it. This led her to move operations to Jersey City, an area that better embraces regulated cannabis.
They first won a conditions license in October 2022. Benedict’s Supply was approved by the Cannabis Control Board (CCB) in 2023.
In July 2024, the NJ Cannabis Regulatory Commission (NJCRC) awarded them an annual dispensary license, which is needed to open legally. They’re now open for business in North Jersey.
Benedict’s Supply is a woman and Jewish-owned business, a rarity in the cannabis space. As of 2023, an estimated 22% of cannabis companies are woman-owned.
The Heights neighborhood in Jersey City is home to many other dispensaries, including the Other Side Dispensary, Leaf Joint, Uforia, and JC Element, if you don’t count those down the Palisades.
Benedict’s Supply joins a very wide selection of 22 Jersey City dispensaries.
Legal Cannabis Issues
One issue facing Benedict’s Supply is that many bodegas and smoke shops are selling shady intoxicating hemp that might just be street weed. Jersey City has been cracking down on the worst offenders with varying degrees of success.
Another common problem small businesses like Benedict’s Supply encounter is predatory landlords. They often squeeze tenants who need the money to prioritize many other expenses like operations, marketing, and paying staff.
Landlords also have reportedly taken advantage of Green Zones, small areas where dispensaries are legally allowed to charge them extra, which some call “the Green Tax.”
