Can You Hide the Smell of Cannabis?

THC - O cannabis safe? smell of cannabis

The problem with consuming cannabis is the smell. But there are some things you can do to hide it and not get caught by those who disapprove.

Cannabis comes in a variety of forms: edibles, vapes, hash, and even drinks. But I, along with many others, always prefer cannabis at its purest content, which is the flower itself.

According to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, smoking cannabis is probably the unhealthiest way to consume the product for its psychoactive properties. But there is just something about smoking a joint, blunt or taking a bong rip that feels better than all of the other substitutes for getting high.

Hiding the Smell of Cannabis

But the problem with smoking cannabis is the potent smell. Certain strains of cannabis carry pungent smells that not everyone appreciates. It is much stronger after you finish smoking a blunt or a pipe. It also makes you very conscious of yourself because that stench can carry onto your clothes for hours, and I am sure many, including myself, don’t want to smell like cannabis all the time, 24/7.

There are a few methods to consider in order to mitigate the risk of smelling like cannabis in front of people who do not appreciate it.

One thing I always try to practice after a relaxing smoke session with either myself or my friends is to immediately brush my teeth, take a shower, and change clothes. According to Plantin, practicing good hygiene is a way to get rid of terpene stains. Brush your teeth, take showers, and change clothes after smoking is effective at getting rid of the smell. I particularly like this method. I do not need to spend money on situational products every time I am done smoking.

Making Sploofs

Another way to reduce the smell of weed is to create sploofs. According to Leafly.com, the sploof is a device stoners made to reduce the smell of weed in their room by separating particulate matter from exhaled smoke. It can be made using everyday household items or can be bought from a store, but both are effective at reducing the smell of weed.

You can also buy carbon filters and use them during indoor smoke sessions or when you are growing cannabis indoors. Although carbon filters are primarily used to purify the air after cooking certain dishes, zamnesia.com believes that carbon filters are also great for filtering out the smell of cannabis.

“A carbon filter works to filter out the aromatic compounds emanated by cannabis bud. By “scrubbing” these molecules through active carbon, the smell of cannabis stays within your grow tent or room,” they wrote

But there is still a major problem with cannabis itself. Sure you or your fresh clothes may not smell like weed. But that doesn’t change the fact that cannabis carries a very pungent smell. It is sometimes strong enough to encompass the entire room. Often, you may have a roommate or family member you are living with that may not appreciate the smell.

Smell-Proof Bag

According to Kyndpackaging.com, the smell-proof bag is one of the best ways to eliminate the smell of cannabis.

“Though it cannot be guaranteed that a smell-proof bag will protect your stash from the sense of trained drug dogs, the bare human nose cannot detect the contents of your bag. In addition to deterring human detection, your smell-proof bag protects your stash from contamination, visualization, and oxidation,” they said

Concealing the smell of weed is not just for the sake of your family members and roommates who do not appreciate the smell of weed, but for yourself as well. The smell of weed is so pungent it affects my life and interactions with others in public.

Whenever I have to work on something important, my room is the last place I would stay. I couldn’t focus on my tasks at hand due to the smell of weed filling up my room, and all I would think about is smoking instead of finishing my tasks at hand. My clothes, bedsheets, and closet smelled like cannabis, and I became very conscious of myself whenever I left.

As much as I do enjoy smoking cannabis, I become equally conscious around who I interact with. Sure, there are alternatives to getting high, such as ingesting edibles or vaping cannabis carts. But neither of them is as good as smoking joints, blunts, and bongs, in my opinion. Doing the best I can to conceal the smell of weed is not just good for myself. But for everyone around me because some people do not enjoy the smell of cannabis in the air.
