According to a press release, it will focus on how terpenes shape aroma, flavor, and experiences in cannabis. It will be held on Sunday, September 20, from 6 p.m.- 7 p.m.
They aim to give consumers a working understanding of what shapes their cannabis experience beyond THC. It will be sponsored by Jersey Smooth and Hashbury Fleur.
The event is 21+ with limited seating. Registration is available via the Retreat’s website and Instagram bio.
Upcoming Terpene Talk Educational Program
The class will explain how two of the same strains can offer meaningfully different experiences. The Retreat says this distinction is something the cannabis industry has rarely explained to consumers.
In New Jersey, the adult-use cannabis market has largely sold on one thing: THC percentage. But THC potency isn’t the whole story. Cannabis contains over 150 known terpenes.
These compounds play a big role in your experience and are responsible for the scent and flavor of the flower.

Alex Santiago, partner and General Manager of the Retreat, added that “our team spends real time with every customer who wants to learn. Terpene Talk allows us to have that conversation on a more in-depth scale.”
Natalie Benson, AKA The Garden Mother and a partner, noted, “There’s a real appetite for education in this space, especially from women who’ve been sold potency as the entire cannabis experience. This class helps our community to understand their experience better.”
The team at the Retreat will lead the class, covering:
- What terpenes are. The aroma, flavor, and reported effects; and
- Reading the terpene label on a Certificate of Analysis (COA). Consuming by profile, and not potency.
According to them, “all statements regarding terpene effects reflect reported consumer experience and published research. The Retreat does not make medical claims about its products, consistent with New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission guidelines.”
