Harmony Dispensary Sued Over Alleged Misuse of Funds & Wrongful Termination

A former executive of Harmony Dispensary of Secaucus is suing the company and alleging CEO Shaya Brodchandel improperly withdrew company money.

Robert Moroni has filed a lawsuit in the Superior Court of Hudson County since they’re in executive. He is arguing he was fired for calling attention to Brodchandel for improperly withdrawing $1 million of company money and investing it in a company in Israel. The lawsuit alleges Brodchandel took the money and removed it to a personal safe.

Moroni was previously the company’s Chief Administrative Officer. Moroni is suing the company to reclaim his job. He declined to comment on the story.

Harmony Dispensary Issues

Harmony was the sixth dispensary to open its main location in Secaucus. They have been opening their satellite locations in Jersey City and Hoboken. The Hoboken location was the subject of a lawsuit with a company called Terrapin from Colorado. They applied for a dispensary in that still-unresolved portion of the 2019 medical cannabis application Request for Proposals (RFA). The process started 27 months ago.

Brodchandel serves as President of the NJ Cannabis Trade Association (NJCTA), which is composed of the license holders in the market. Before the announcement on Friday, there were only 12 license holders, and all were NJCTA members.

“Harmony Foundation remains focused on growing the cannabis industry in New Jersey while serving the local community,” CEO Shaya Brodchandel said. “We will not allow this baseless lawsuit to distract us from our mission.”

Harmony Dispensary has been operating in Secaucus since 2018. Their medical cannabis dispensary in Secaucus only serves patients currently but could move to adult use cannabis sales in the future.
