NJ Legislative Black Caucus Recreational Marijuana Hearing (3/3)

April 24, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Free
NJLBC Rec Marijuana Hearings

The New Jersey Legislative Black Caucus is having several Recreational Marijuana Hearings throughout the state of New Jersey to help educate the community. This is the third of three scheduled hearings.

The Legislature’s back in session, and the New Jersey Legislative Black Caucus is organizing field hearings on marijuana legalization to hear the voices of the public. We need you to show up and tell them what we already know: marijuana arrests are a civil rights crisis.

The hearings will be in February, March, and April in Jersey City, Elizabeth, and Atlantic City, respectively. RSVP to attend.

Not all members of the Black Legislative Caucus support legalization, unfortunately. They need to hear from you. They need to know that you want legalization and that real racial and social justice must be part of any legalization system that comes to our state.

Please attend one of the upcoming recreational marijuana hearings and sign up to speak. NJUMR will be there handing out pins so you can show your support. These events are opportunities to influence the legislative process as legalization is debated in Trenton, and it’s a chance for lawmakers to hear your voice on this issue.

Hearing schedule:

Jersey City
Wednesday, Feb. 21, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Cityline Church
1510 John F. Kennedy Blvd.
Jersey City, NJ 07305

Elizabeth
Tuesday, March 27, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Mt. Teman A.M.E. Church
160 Madison Ave.
Elizabeth, NJ 07201

Atlantic City
Tuesday, April 24, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Second Baptist Church
110 Rev. Dr. Isaac Cole Plaza
Atlantic City, NJ 08401

If you have a chance to speak at any of the hearings, please:

  • Share your personal story of how the current system has impacted you, your family, your career, and why it is so important to legalize marijuana.

Advocate for a legal marijuana system that advances social and racial justice to repair some of the harms done by the war on marijuana.

Call on elected leaders to be sure legalization includes:

  • Automatic expungement of marijuana possession offenses.
  • Reinvestment in communities hit hardest by the inequalities built into marijuana enforcement.
  • A provision allowing home-grow for individuals.
  • Low barriers to owning a marijuana business or working in the legal marijuana market.
  • Caps on licensing fees to sell marijuana within the regulated system.

Attend a hearing to be counted, be heard and to learn more.
