Ignorance Is No Excuse Tour – Cranbury
March 12, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pmFree
Mayor Glenn R. Johnson of Cranbury, New Jersey does not want cannabis in town available for legalized adult-use. Cranbury is already home to one of the approved medical marijuana dispensaries. On March 12, the town council will hold their next meeting, where cannabis opposition may be discussed.
“We were opposed to the legalization of marijuana” Johnson stated, as reported by centraljersey.com. He said that in Colorado, each town can “opt out of the retail sale of recreational marijuana” if they do want to participate.
“[Murphy] didn’t make any commitments about whether towns would be allowed to decide for themselves whether or not retail would be permitted,” Johnson continued, “But he understands that’s what we want. We’ll see what happens.”
At a town council meeting in Toms River, the committee tabled its ban until it gathers more information on proposed legislation before taking action. Additionally, Oceanport took no action on a recent bill after hearing from advocates supporting cannabis. Meanwhile, other towns such as Wall and Old Bridge have passed ordinances banning the sale and manufacture of cannabis in their towns, despite hearing from advocates.
More towns will continue to table their bills and seek more information prior to taking action when they hear from YOU!
