The Cannabis Place dispensary opened in the Greenville neighborhood of Jersey City. It’s the 59th New Jersey adult use cannabis dispensary to open.
They held a Grand Opening ribbon-cutting ceremony with local leaders and advocates gathered for the celebration.
Jersey City Cannabis Dispensary Opening
Founder and CEO Osbert Orduña thanked his wife for her support at the Grand Opening of The Cannabis Place. He noted his daughters also work for the dispensary, making it a family business.
“The Cannabis Place, I’m proud to say, is the first Latino and serviced disabled business to be licensed in New Jersey and Jersey City,” Orduña declared.
He noted they are opening with a fully unionized staff represented by the UFCW Local 360 labor union to ensure equity in the cannabis industry. The dispensary space was built out with all union personnel as well.
“Workers rights are paramount. We are about people over profits. We want to help uplift the Greenville community, Jersey City, and the marginalized area where cannabis prohibition was in full force,” Orduña added.
“We’re friends and family-owned. Not big shots from Wall Street or corporations,” he declared.
Community Minded Store
Orduña said they would begin offering free delivery of cannabis orders throughout Hudson County, “Just like we do in our New York location. We’re going to grow that model here as well.”
He noted they have launched an app available in both the Apple and Google stores and have a state-of-the-art website, TheCannabisPlace.org where their clients can order for express in-store pickup as well.
Orduña thanked their community partner, the Credible Messengers, which seeks to address gang violence. He noted Jersey City Health and Human Services Director Stacey Flanagan was on hand and thanked her for her service on the Jersey City Cannabis Control Board.
“I’m no longer on the board. I’m here because you’re a veteran, and that’s so meaningful,” Flanagan said.
“What’s great about this, minority, women veteran ownership is very important. Local employment is crucial. Union employment. All the right things. And giving back. Those are the things that make businesses like this in the cannabis industry the types of businesses we want to see in Jersey City,” Hudson County Commissioner and Jersey City Mayoral candidate in 2025 Bill O’Dea said.
Many Gathered for Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
After the ribbon cutting, Orduña welcomed everyone into The Cannabis Place dispensary.
Jersey City Director of Diversity and Inclusion Floyd Jeter was also on hand for the occasion. He worked with Orduña to secure employment for locals.
Many others were present to celebrate the Grand Opening of The Cannabis Place dispensary in Jersey City. Several were happy to see a Hispanic man open a dispensary.
Uforia Dispensary owner Bashkim Spahi was among the local businesspeople and advocates at the Grand Opening. He supported his fellow dispensary owner by making a purchase. Spahi has been actively following the Jersey City cannabis process.
The Cannabis Place Dispensary Opens
The Cannabis Place is a colorful place with unique signs and decorations. It had fine wooden tables and shrub plants, giving it a warmer atmosphere than more corporate dispensaries. The Cannabis Place dispensary also featured art by local budtender Timothy Womack.
It’s both a revolutionary thing selling legal weed. But then it’s just another retail store.
They’ll be open daily from 12-8 and accept payment via cash, credit, debit, Google Pay, Apple Pay, and even ACH transfer.
